Issaqueena Festival

The Issaqueena Festival is held the third Saturday in May each year in downtown Six Mile. Main Street is closed from Liberty Highway to Six Mile Baptist church during the festival. Free entertainment for both adults and children is provided with plenty of room to sit down and enjoy the entertainment under tents along Main Street. Both food and arts and crafts vendors line Main Street during the festival.

The area now known as Six Mile once belonged to the Cherokee Nation. A popular legend says that Six Mile was named by the Indian maiden, Issaqueena, who rode her horse on a journey of ninety-six miles to warn an English trader named Francis Allen of a coming Cherokee attack on his fort. Issaqueena numbered the creeks she crossed until she reached the fort in the area she labeled Ninety Six. There is still a town named Ninety Six, and many other number names on the path to it, these include Mile Creek, Six Mile, Twelve Mile River, and Six and Twenty Creek. The town festival was named in her honor.
Ole Fashioned Christmas

Ole Fashioned Christmas is a holiday tradition in Six Mile which brings the sights and sounds of the season to downtown Six Mile. The Ole Fashioned Christmas is held the Thursday evening before the Christmas Parade. Shop owners provide refreshments.The evening includes lighting the towns Christmas lights, along with the lighted luminaries all along Main Street. There is also singing by elementary school students and others.
Christmas Parade

The Christmas Parade is the first Saturday in December at 10:30 am. With a rain date of the first Sunday in December at 2:30 pm. The 1st parade was in 1970 and has been an annual event ever since. The Christmas Parade Committee is chaired by Diane Bowen and she has several Six Mile residents that help her with the parade. Annual Events

Vendor applications will be taken starting sometime in January for the festival. Each vendor must provide his or her own table and tent. Limited electrical and water hookups are available.
