Description: | From Blackwater Ukulele Festival Website: This is the fifth festival co-hosted with Cypress Gardens, the V-Tones and The Charleston Hot Shots. Each festival gets bigger and better. It is the only festival of its kind on the southeast coast. This festival gives people the opportunity to take workshops, meet other ukulele players. This year we are raising money for the Music Speaks Project www.********.*** to raise awareness for Autism and the need for early access to care through the power of music. Nathan Miller, co-founder of the the project, will be one of the performers at the free concert. CD's will be on sale to help raise funds for the project.
The festival is put on by local ukulele enthusiasts who volunteer their time. We kick the festival off with a workshop appropriate for the beginner through intermediate players. They are taught by local ukulele legend Donald "Noodle McDoodle" Whitley, one of the best ukulele players on the east coast.
The free concert will be put on by our band the Charleston Hot Shots, a "Skiffle" band, Sarrah Summer, Nathan Miller and The V-Tones, a unique ukulele swing band.
Another favorite is the hula exhibition and hula class. Open mic is kicked off by the folks that took the hula class! At open mic have had folks from 8 to 80 get up and play. Open mic is where the local ukulele crowd gets to perform, some for the first time. This is extremely popular.
For the non-uke playing members of your family there are the regular park attractions a gift store, and food, craft and uke vendors.
