| Description: | Darlington County Tourism, the City of Hartsville and Naturally Outdoors of Florence, SC, have announced plans for the first Black Creek Kayak/Canoe Festival. Activities during the day will take place at Lawton Park and Sonocos Lakeview Club, both located in the Hartsville, SC area. br> Sanctioned by the American Canoe Association, the event will open at 9am on May 2, 2009 and run until 5pm. During the day a group of no less than eight kayak and/or canoe vendors will be demonstrating their products for interested parties. For those wishing to try their hand at canoeing or kayaking for the first time, Naturally Outdoors of Florence will be provide lesson basics. A number of nature-based organizations will have exhibits in the Lawton Park Pavilion. These exhibitors will include: Black Creek Land Trust, Pee Dee Land Trust, American Rivers, Kalmia Gardens, YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee, Clemson Extension Service, and Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge. Activities during the day will include a float and fun race down 3.4 miles of picturesque Black Creek in Hartsville, South Carolina from 10am-1pm and a first ever Sprint Across the Lake at 2pm. Shuttle service, provided by the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee, will be available for registered participants during that time. Rental boats will be available and a SWAP� area for those looking to buy, sell, or trade items. Registration for the creek float or the race is $25 and the Sprint Across the Lake is $10. Registration forms are available online or at Naturally Outdoors in Florence. Oneida Martin, TimberLyn, The Gadsden Project and Noah Stanley will provide afternoon entertainment on the grounds of Lawton Park. Food catered by Southern Candy Kitchen will be available all day. | |
